HiComp's family of HIBACK/MPE, HIBACK/XL, and HIBACK/UX is a group of
high speed backup, archive, and restore utilities that run on HP's MPE
V, MPE/XL, and HP-UX operating systems. HIBACK uses parallel
processing and its own store format to read and store backup data to
achieve a savings in processing time and storage space. It is also
able to do software data compression to save additional storage space,
but at a cost of using more system time.
Backups can be performed while the system is up and in use. Data can
be backed up in HIBACK Savefiles on spare disks at night. These
SAVEFILEs can then be stored off to tape, optical disks, or DAT when
operators are available to store the files to tape. HIBACK performs
unattended backups to HP's optical library on HPUX systems.
When systems are networked with HIBACK installed on each system, HIBACK
can perform backups over the LAN. Files can be backed up from any
source system to any target system's backup device at high speeds.
Using the network to backup multiple systems to the optical library is
an ideal way to fully utilize the library. HiComp's HIBAR product can
be used to manage multiple backups from the various HIBACK programs
over the LAN. HIBACK uses the optical library as a random access
storage device for fast and easy data retrival. Savefiles can be
quickly accessed on any cartridge on any side for retrival or scanning.
HIBACK allows files to be restored back to their original directory or
to the current directory.
HIBACK can be customized to include certain files and directories or
exclude them. File size can be very large since HIBACK's storage
format is able to span volumes and so is not limited by the physical
media capacity. HIBACK can be set to store files of a certain age and
then erase them to provide an archive function. HIBACK can append
Savefiles together to save media.
HIBACK Features:
-HIBACK/XL for MPE/XL systems
-HIBACK/3000 for MPE/V systems
-HI-NET for MPE system to connect to the HP-UX network
-HIBACK/UX for HPUX systems and the optical backup server
-HIBACK/DOS for DOS systems
-unattended, automated backup to the optical library
-easy to use utility
-standalone backup
-network backup
-network backup to another networked system's optical library
-software data compression
-backup activity logging and reporting
-high performance backups due to compression and optimized writes to
the optical library
Benefits
-Reduced operating costs due to:
unattended, automated network backup to optical
reduce floor space cost due to the small space used by the optical
library
-Increased productivity by users being able to restore their own files
-Sharing the optical library over the network
-Archive function
Sell this optical backup solution when
-you have a customer who wants automated, unattended backups of a small
number (less than 10) of systems with:
-high speed stores to optical disks
-ability to store over the network to another system's optical
library
-logging of all backups, full and incremental
-you have a customer who would like to backup HP3000, HP-UX, and/or DOS
systems over the network to a HP-UX system with the optical library
HIBACK provide a high performance, network or standalone backup on
optical media for a HP-UX system alone or serving HP3000's, HP9000's,
or DOS systems on the network at prices ranging from $25 to $9000 per
license.
